Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan is a shopping landmark that sets certain expectations for first-time visitors from afar. While it may seem like a fun place to visit, it is better known as a shopping center for luxury brands such as Gucci, Prada, Saint Laurent, Swarovski, and other prestigious fashion houses.
After shopping at these high-end boutiques, you might be tempted to indulge in some fancy dining at restaurants like Savini 1867, Biffi, or Cracco. However, this can be expensive for a casual traveler who simply wants to explore this 19th-century upscale leisure center.
But we discovered that Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II isn’t just for the jet set. You can also appreciate its historical significance and enjoy the warm evening atmosphere without breaking the bank. Here’s a guide to experiencing the Galleria on a budget.
Have a Taste of Flowery Amorino Gelato

Amorino is one of the iconic gelato franchises you can find in the Galleria. It’s famous for its rose-shaped ice cream, which can be topped with a macaron for an extra €1.90. The gelato itself is reasonably priced, ranging from €4.40 to €11.00, depending on the size you choose.
Our personal favorite is the pistachio flavor. However, if you’re craving a more tangy and refreshing treat, we recommend the blood orange—a passion fruit-inspired flavor.

For those with a sweet tooth looking for more than just gelato, Marchesi 1824 offers a delightful array of desserts. While it’s popular for afternoon dessert time, takeout is also an option.
We highly recommend the brioche, filled with creamy vanilla goodness, and the soft yet buttery panettone. Apparently, their cappuccino is also a crowd favorite!

Books and Souvenirs in La Feltrineli

As book lovers, we couldn’t help but just enter La Feltrineli in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II Milan. The books are mostly Italian or Italian-translated, from classics to recent releases. Apparently, it’s one of well-known bookstores in Italy.
Besides books, you can also find Blu-ray collections and vinyl records. There are also decent stationaries and Italian souvenirs you can buy here. It closed at 8 pm, if you thought of exploring this bookstore, better come in first when you arrived at the Galleria.
Explore the World of Leonardo da Vinci

Opening hours: 09.30 am-09.00 pm
We almost never miss the chance to visit a historical gem when we find one. If you’re at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, make sure to explore The World of Leonardo da Vinci, located on its north side. This museum and exhibition feature a collection of Leonardo da Vinci’s mechanical designs, replicas, and his famous manuscripts.
Discovering the genius behind Leonardo’s achievements in astronomy, agriculture, electronics, and other fields is a fascinating experience. Allow yourself at least 1 to 2 hours to explore the museum thoroughly, especially if you take the time to inspect and read the information on each display.

Have a Takeouts Pizza from Spontini

Opening hours: 11.00 am-11.00 pm
For dinner, we recommend grabbing a pizza at Spontini. Located just outside the main Galleria on the east side, this corner restaurant might serve fast food pizza, but it’s the quintessential Italian fast food pizza.
The pizza here comes in large slices with thick, fluffy dough topped with plenty of cheese. Pair it with soda or draft beer for a budget-friendly dinner. Our top picks are the classic Margherita or the ham and mushroom (fungi) pizza.
Though Spontini offers dine-in options, it’s a standing-only setup and can get quite crowded. For a more relaxed experience, we suggest taking your pizza to Piazza del Duomo, the square in front of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, where you’ll find plenty of spots to sit for free.
Price rate: 10-20 euro
