Barcelona offers many romantic ventures for couples visiting Spain. In fact, it’s one of the most popular destinations for honeymoons. As fans of horror and history, we found the Gothic Quarter to be a one-of-a-kind neighborhood to explore. It can be surprisingly romantic with its unique charm.

The Gothic Quarter is one of the oldest parts of Barcelona, featuring the remains of the city’s Roman walls and several notable medieval landmarks. This part of the city transports you and your loved one to another era—what could be more magical than that?

The neighborhood is also very tourist-friendly, offering everything you could need. From hotels and various dining spots to bars, landmarks, museums, and performance venues, there’s plenty to explore during the day.

Here, we want to share the best itinerary for a date night in Barcelona centered around the Gothic Quarter.

Explore Majestic Architecture of Landmarks in the Gothic Quarter

There is so much to explore in the Gothic Quarter, that it could be hard to decide where to start! But we could recommend starting from 📍 Plaça de Catalunya, it’s a big square in the heart of Barcelona. Then entered the Gothic Quarter from 📍 Avenida del Portal de l’Àngel; a wide, pedestrian-friendly street lined with shops.

The gradual transformation from modern-gothic to gothic medieval architecture as you go further to the edge of Avenida del Portal de l’Àngel is definitely magical. With fewer shops open as the night comes, it only leaves classic-styled street lamps to guide your way.

If you walk to Plaça d’Isidre Nonell, you’ll find the iconic wall mural named 📍 The World Comes To Life With Each Kiss. It might look like a generic kissing picture from afar, but you’ll find out it’s a collective of many pictures like a collage.

Walk further to the southeast, you’ll arrived to another landmark, 📍 Cathedral of Barcelona that also glows at night. Along the way, you’ll witness many Gothic architecture that would keep your head moving around. One of hidden gems in this maze is 📍 Pont del Bisbe, it’s a bridge with Gothic details that connected two building.

Our next destination is El Pintxo de Petritxo. On the way, we passed many more landmarks and amazing architecture of the Gothic Quarter such as; 📍 Sant Felip Neri Square and 📍 Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi.

After exploring the magical streets of the Gothic Quarter, we needed a break to fill our bellies and get ready for more adventures because the night was still young! That’s when we found El Pintxo de Petritxol, the perfect spot for a tasty and fun stop.

Pintxos are small snacks popular in northern Spain, served on skewers or toothpicks. They can be made with all sorts of ingredients like seafood, meats, olives, and peppers. The name comes from the Spanish word pincho, which means “stick.”
